Decency of The Dress

Oh you children of Adam! I have bestowed garments upon you to cover your shame,as well as to make you beautiful. But the garments of righteousness, that is the best. Such are among the signs of Allah and that they may receive admonition, (Al-Araf 7:26)

Subhanallah! This ayah from the Holy Quran tells us to cover our private parts because Allah gave us the money, the clothes and the ability to cover our private parts. Allah is also saying that he is the one that made us beautiful and he can take it away anytime he wants. That is why our body has its own rights over us, in other words we should respect our body. The ayah also says that the most best and the most important garment is the garment of righteousness and fairness.

Two Reasons of Having Clothes
1.Body Warmth
This helps a person cover up their private parts and also helps them keep their dignity.
2.Affects Our Behavior
For example if someone dresses up modestly people will respect that peron. However, if a person does not dress up modestly he or she will not be treated with respect.

Islamic Dress Code
What is Islamic dress code? Islamic Dress differs for males and females.

Females
Females should dress wearing loose clothes. Clothes that do not reveal the body and they should also wear hijaab (head scarf.) However, wearing a hijaab has many responsibilites:

  1. If you are planning to wear hijaab or already are you should know the reason behind the hijaab so that you can explain to others what it really is.
  2. Hijaab is also a sign of purity and modesty, you should wear hijaab not because you are being told to but in the cause of Allah.
  3. Hijaab is also a type of jihad (struggle in the cause of Allah) for women.
Males
Males should wear clothes that cover them from their navel to their knees at the very least. It is best to wear modest clothes such as an hiba. Like the one shown.

I am not a Mufti or Alima therefore I do not want to share what a few people might take offense to. In that case I would like you to contact a Mufti, Alim, or someone with the knowledge of Islam.
